Happy Valentine to All

Valentine is coming soon, and this is the topic of Food and Filosophy on Monday,6th February at 5;30 AT Dolce Vita. Before I tell you more about the topic for discussion, I would like to offer all the ladies of Port Alberni the following poem. You will find this sentiment deep in the hearts of most men!
I have asked the poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning to express these deep feelings within our hearts,
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday’s
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old grief’s, and with my childhood’s faith.
I love thee with a love I seem to lose
With my lost saints,-I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life!---and if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death
Ho do you like that l...ladies? It takes a woman to express our feelings!
Our programme for the evening is under the directorship of Mario De Brantani…True Love and Valentine’s day.
He wants us to do some research about the history of Valentine’s Day.
The transformation from the spiritual expression of love, for example, “will you be my valentine? To the materialistic trend towards evermore expensive gifts accompanied by one’s printed sentiments.Recollect you most memorable Valentine received and given. Design a Valentine Card. Discussion of the content and presentation of the ideal Valentine card.
SUNSHINE CLUB READER’S GROUP..Under the direction of Alex and Pat Miller, this group is progressing very well. They told me that I should not advertise for more members, for all memberships are taken. There is so much talk about literacy, then we only think of the young children, but it is important that we, older people pay more attention to our mental growth. When this group started, they decided that we will read a book every two weeks, and they have stuck to this rule. Here is a list of books read by the members: Unless, Who Has Seen the Wind, The Far farers, The Hero’s Walk, The Cave, and they have allowed me to introduce Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar. I look forward to hearing the group participates in the play. Thanks to all the members for the enlightening discussions.
FOLKFEST MULTICULTURAL SOCIETY..July 1st will soon be on us, and we are having our first meeting for the year in the Abbeyfield basement on February, 7th at 4:00 p.m.At our Annual General meeting we elected the following officers: Laida Lockwood, president; Bienvenida, Vice President; Mary Lee Larochelle,Secretary/Treasurer; Winston Joseph, Public Relations Officer; Gillian Shearwater, Parade Co-coordinator, and Coreen Humphries, Entertainment Co-coordinator. It always amazes me that so few people have been responsible for our annual National celebrations! How about coming over to the meeting on the 7th at 4 p.m..Thanks
CELEBRATION OF THE WORD: a PERSONAL THANKS TO Mr. Gordon Scoffield for taking time to give us a brush with Shakespeare. Gordon told us the stories of Macbeth, Julius Caesar, The Taming of the Shrew, The Merchant of Venice, and finally, Romeo and Juliet. It is a pity that more people in this community pass up the opportunity of hearing a Master Shakespearean Story Teller. My hope one day..A number of citizens who will form a club a Shakespearean club dedicated to reading all the plays of Shakespeare! Why not? Think of our Canadian adventurers. Right here in Port we can start a reading adventure…I await your phone calls. Thanks to Meg for leading a session on The Sonnets of Shakespeare!
