Nominations Required

To kick off our centennial year, the Chamber of Commerce would like to throw open nominations for our annual Community Excellence Awards Dinner. The event is scheduled for Thursday, April 12th at the best Western Barclay Hotel. You can pick up nomination papers at the Visitor Centre or by accessing the chamber’s website, avcoc.com. Last year’s categories and winners include: EM Salon – Small Business Excellence, The See Group of Companies – Large Business, Dave’s Catering – Entrepreneur, Alberni District Co-op – Customer Service, Ultimate Fishing Town Get’er Done Crew – Volunteer of the Year, Nicklin Waste Disposal – Environmental, Gateway Community Church – Children and Family Friendly, Christina Wynans, Jennifer Preedy, Danielle Tolfo – Youth of the Year, Pam Craig – Citizen of the year, Stamp River Tubing and Chase & warren Winery – Tourism Excellence and a special recognition award went to Economic Development Manager, Patrick Deakin. Our selection committee will review all nominations and choose a maximum of three finalists in each category. They will be our guests at the dinner and awards banquet where they will be introduced and the winner will be chosen. Of course the dinner is open to the general public and tickets will soon be available at the Visitor Centre. Award sponsorships will be available by contacting our office. First priority will go to last year’s sponsors. The chamber believes that it is important that we celebrate community excellence, so take a few minutes to nominate who you feel is a deserving business or individual and we’ll see to it that they get some well-deserved recognition.
The Backyardigans are coming to town! Took me a while to find out just what exactly a Backyardigan is, but I’ve now watched a bit of the Treehouse cable channel and I know all about these little critters. They will be on stage at 1pm, Saturday January 28th in the ADSS auditorium. We have the tickets at the Visitor Centre and as of writing this we have sold about 600 tickets with some 250 left. They are $23.50 each, cash only, general admission.
