That's for sure... I'm surprised they went out with the kind of forecast that was there... but I don't blame them one bit for trying because no day is a good day really. It's hard to say what storm will be the one that just blows through and what one blows you back.
I've been in Hecate Strait in July and we had waves higher than the poles on our troller (40ft?) and only gale force winds. I thought it was pretty cool at the time... even though the stabilizers were swinging into the boat and my sleeping bag got a soaker in the folkshole and my dad was less than enthralled....
I'm just glad they all got back OK and all that was damaged were some dishes and a thruster.
As beautiful as she was, I doubt the Queen of the North would have been any better... it just didn't have a bow thruster to bust. Still lots of dishes. Nothing comes out unscathed in 40-50ft waves driven by 90kph winds.
