Alberni Valley Chamber Ambassadors Program

For four successful seasons the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce volunteer Ambassador Program has successfully been meeting and greeting visitors to the region.
Some forty-five strong, this valiant team of good natured folks have worked in Cathedral Grove and on the Frances Barkley mid-June through mid-September. In addition, they have welcomed cruise ship passengers to Port Alberni and participated in the annual Folkfest Parade. Their bright yellow jackets with the question mark on the back signify that they are the “go to” people for information about things to do and see in the Alberni Valley. They have also been known to give visitors rides to their destinations and even as far as to Nanaimo for medical reasons. It’s apparent from the positive feedback they receive and new friendships they strike, that the Ambassadors team really enjoys their work. The rules for becoming an Ambassador are loose; have fun, promote your community, invite visitors to stop at the Visitor Centre and have more fun.
Those interested in signing on to this amazing team, should know that most of the scheduling is during the summer season and there is no minimum for shifts. If you can afford a little time to the program, fine. If you can afford more time, that’s OK as well. Please contact the Chamber at 724 6535 if you are interested in giving back to your community in a very positive way.
The Chamber would like to thank jacket sponsors Community Futures and Chances Rimrock Gaming Centre. We also salute our successful partnership with the Frances Barkley (Lady Rose Marine) for allowing the Ambassadors aboard the ship on a daily basis.
