BC Transportation Minister Speaks at Chamber Luncheon

The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce welcomes the Honourable Minister of Transportation, Mary Polak, to Port Alberni and our monthly Networking Luncheon on October 3rd. Note that the luncheon is moved up one week in order to coincide with the minister’s visit to Port Alberni. She will be meeting with local officials and then attending our luncheon at noon at the Best Western Barclay Hotel. With secondary highways, industrial by-pass roads, rail and an under-utilized deep sea port all under discussion on the local scene, it could be a lively presentation. The luncheon is open to members and non-members by reserving your seat or table at 724 6535.
There are a couple of big job fairs coming to Port Alberni in the near future. The first is the “Canada Starts Here – The BC Jobs Plan” job fair. It is targeted at any who are looking to up-grade their skills, get career advice and to meet prospective employers. It will take place from noon to 7pm Monday Oct.1 at the Best Western Barclay Hotel. A slightly more glitzy “Jobfest”, coordinated by the Ministry of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation, will hit town Friday Oct.12th at the Multiplex. This “Jobfest” is targeted to the youth in the region with live bands, video screens and more. Counsellors will be on hand to speak with our youth about career opportunities in our province. If it rains, the event will be moved to the Athletic Hall.
If you are looking for an interesting evening enjoying a talk and slide show about cruising the Danube River through Europe, come join Collette Vacations, Twin Travel and the Chamber of Commerce at 6:30 pm Tuesday Oct.9 at the Visitor Centre. The program will point out the highlights of a river system cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam a year from now. All meals, cultural tours and air fare are included in one reasonable price and we are hoping to fill the ship with adventurous Port Albernians. The travelogue evening is free and there will be light refreshments. Take the first step toward fulfilling another item on your bucket list and join us.
The Shop Alberni campaign continues right through until December 31st. Look for merchants with the Shop Alberni posters in the window, indicating what discount deal they are offering registered shoppers. To see what discounts the merchants are offering, visit our website, avcoc.com, and follow the prompts for Shop Alberni.
