The Last Column

With the amazing amount of buffoonery going on in the capital city these days, it will be most interesting to hear from the out-going provincial Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training at our upcoming Networking Dinner. As he has announced that he will be stepping down after this term for health reasons, I’m sure he is going to be very candid about his take on provincial politics today and in the future. The Networking Dinner will take place at 5:30pm Wednesday, March 20th at the Alberni Golf Club. To reserve you seat please call our office at 724 6535.
The “Ides of March” (March 15th ) is the deadline for nominations for the annual Community Excellence Awards Dinner. All the information is on our website (avcoc.com) and it’s really easy to nominate a person or business. All the categories are explained on that site and the nomination form is simple to fill out. After the March 15th deadline, our selection committee will short list to three finalists in each category. The finalists will be our guests at the Awards Dinner on April 18th at the Best Western Barclay hotel. The winner will be revealed that special evening and we can all show our appreciation to those who are true leaders in our community. For tickets to this event, contact our office.
This marks the final “Manager’s Desk” for me. I am attaching my trusty Seagull outboard to the desk and heading out to Barkley Sound to write the definitive novel. This summer I will be perfecting my golf game with the goal of becoming a touring PGA golf pro. So, I have my work cut out for me. In leaving the position of Executive Director of the Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce, I would like to express my appreciation to our directors, past and present and the staff, for putting up with me. I would also like to express much appreciation to the groups and organizations I have partnered with over the years – it’s been a pleasure coming to work each morning. Rest assured that my replacement, Bill Collette will do an excellent job. He is a very good hire for the job and I wish him well.
