Positive Port Alberni!

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY!!! I was happy to receive a book from the Board Office called: We Generation! I was also invited to a discussion of this book, unfortunately I could not attend. I am so happy that there is a Social Responsibility Programme in this district. I praise the Lions Club for my ten years working at A.D.S.S. with the Leos Club. We now have Ryan Dvorak, a past president of the Leos, now a member of the Lions Club. Not only a member, but Ryan headed this organization as a President! I wish the Lion's WE SERVE, could be the mantra of us all!
I know that I have been called an idealist for talking about The City of Love! If you can conceive it, and believe it, you can achieve it! I am seeing evidences of this Love City here and now!
Here is Gillian Shearwater, the parade marshall of Our National Birthday Committee. This lady has spent countless hours working on this parade, and it is my hope that we will do all in our power to make this another outstanding parade! Here are her words.
CANADA DAY PARADE-ENTER BEFORE JUNE 10!
The hot weather can mean only one thing: summer's here! And that means that there are till a few days left to enter the Canada Day parade-by June 10. Thank you to everyone who has already entered and to all the new entries we have received for this year. Remember that the Canada Day Parade welcomes entries of any size-from friends and neighbours walking together, to non-profit clubs and societies, to business and commercial entries. This is a fun, non-competitive community event, and every entry receives a certificate of participation. Entry is free, but you do need to send your completed entry form by June 10.
To get your information package and parade entry form, contact us by e-mail at CanadaDayParade@gmail, or phone 724-7293 anytime.
This year we "Celebrate our Valley!" By entering the parade, you can help showcase our natural wonders, our heritage, people and their accomplishments, events, industries, values-any of the things that make our
valley unique and special! There is so much to celebrate! And of course, we celebrate our nation's birthday-Canada will be 142 years young on July 1.
Once all the entries are in, there's about three weeks work to design the parade lineup, map out the marshaling area, prepare the commentators' files, and then send out marshaling information to every entry. In the meantime, each parade entry gets ready for Canada day. Then on Wednesday July 1 at 10:00a.m., the parade moves out of the marshaling area and heads up 10th Avenue from Burde to Rosewood (my new home).
The earlier parade start is to make the even more comfortable for everyone-both in the parade and watching as we cope with summer heat. After the parade, festivities continue at Glenwood Centre, with Canada's birthday cake, entertainment and a food fair.
This is one of Port Alberni's major community events, brought to you by the Port Alberni Folkfest Multicultural Society. We're a registered B.C. non-profit society, and we are 100% volunteer group. We appreciate the time
and effort it takes to enter the parade-every entry is important. The Canada Day events are made possible with the generous support of our sponsors.
If you would like to volunteer, contact us! There are hundreds of tasks to put the Canada Day together. There's bound to be something that would interest you.
During May, this group met twice a month. Here is the schedule for meetings in June! June 3, 10, 17, 24, and JULY 1ST!
We meet in the basement of Abbeyfield from 4:30-5:30! We have spoken about Social responsibility, now we raise it to NATIONAL RESPONSIBILITY! As a response, why not come to one of our meetings! There were ten people at our last meeting!! Thanks for the generous response of this community!.
FLY THE FLAG!!! This is my annual appeal to you all! I thank my former neighbours on Alderwood Drive. Do continue to fly your flags. I have to work on Rosewood Street this month. I also appeal to the A.V. Times to put
our flag on the masthead during this month. To the City, please declare June as Flag month as "CELEBRATE OUR VALLEY!"
