Positive Port Alberni

WHAT IS YOU PASSION? This question was answered for me recently. You will all agree with me that Pat Cummings was a woman of great passion. I remembered telling people in Vancouver that I was going to teach in Port Alberni, and they asked me why would I think of teaching in this place? This is a mill town they told me and that all the people do over there is drink. I am glad that I did not follow their advice, for I came here in 1963, and never left!
I think of Pat Cummings starting a dancing school in this community lone before I arrived here. I want to thank her publicly for instructing at one time, my four children into the dancing world. My third daughter, Janis is still connected with The Pat Cummings School of dancing, she now has her daughter, Maddie as a student, and she will be taking part in the Festival.
We had an extremely lively evening with members of Food and Filosophy discussing this topic. We have many people who are following in the footsteps of Pat Cummings. Yes, we are full of passionate people in this community.
FOOD AND FILOSOPHY, APRIL 4TH! Robert Frankow will be discussing Agnosticism with us. He has been a regular attendee at this gathering, and it is time for us to give him an opportunity to discuss his topic, Agnosticism (doubt of God’s Existence). Bob has sent me three pages of questions. He will read them to us and then he will be hoping to get answers to his questions. As an agnostic, he is searching for answers. I am sure you will be able to help Bob. He is honestly waiting for answers. Dolce Vita on Monday, April 4th at 5:30. Sorry I would not be able to help in the answers to Bob’s many question, for as a Christian, I will be attending a mission in our church. This is a very holy season of Lent, and as a former Catholic he is well aware of the importance of this time of the year to a practicing Roman Catholic.
COME AND CELEBRATE THE WORD://Last month, we were fortunate in having Gordon Scoffield introducing Shakespeare to us. For the rest of the year our team will be: Brush up Your Shakespeare. Gordon told the story of Macbeth, and I quoted some verses from the play, and we had a great discussion on the theme of this work. On Wednesday, March 30th, we shall be presenting Julius Caesar. This is a special invitation to grade ten students at A.D.S.S. They are studying this play this year. Let us make Abbeyfield a learning centre, where we can all have our brush with the greatest writer in the history of the world! It would be great to see Literacy Alberni well represented…So, Friends, Romans, Countrymen..lend me your ears!!!
FOLKFEST 2011! I HOPE THAT YOU HAVE ALL REGISTERED BY NOW. We are holding a meeting on March 16th. I will continue to keep you informed. The theme is Celebrating our Community. On the next article, you will get more information.
