Shop Alberni Campaign

The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce is spearheading an on-going Shop Alberni campaign to stimulate shopping at home. Our first crack at this last Christmas proved successful so we’re starting a program that will go right until Christmas and maybe farther. Businesses will register by calling the chamber (724 6535 during business hours), paying a $50.00 fee and providing us with a certificate for $25.00. The registration fee is to cover all printing and advertising costs. The gift certificate will provide for monthly or bi-weekly draws for lucky customers. Shoppers can register online (avcoc.com) or by filling in a customer registration form at a participating merchant. The customer will then receive from the merchant a Shop Alberni card, go
od for the duration of the campaign. Just show the card at participating shops and you will be able to access their discounted special at the time. Posters in the shop’s windows will advertise the special deals and we’ll list them on our website. This will be supported by media ads. We hope to get as many shops participating as possible and let’s keep those dollars on this side of the hump!
Our orientation meeting for the Ambassadors was a success and we are now making up the schedules for the volunteer team. Again this year we’ll be meeting and greeting travellers at Cathedral Grove, aboard the Frances Barkley and at special events such as the centennial homecoming in August. From year to year the Ambassador team changes a bit, but this year we are down in numbers. If you would like to join the team and give back something to the community, make a lot of new friends and have an adventure, call us at the chamber and we can provide some more information.
The chamber’s next Networking Luncheon is scheduled for noon, Wednesday June 13th at the Best Western Barclay hotel. There will be an opportunity for attendees to introduce themselves and give some information about their specific business. Our guest speaker for the luncheon will be Compliance Coal’s CEO, John Tapics. We’ll use the same format we did last time he came to up-date us on the Raven Coal project – all written questions.
