Treasure Hunt Time

The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce is having a good old treasure hunt. We will do this in late September when all our major events yet to come (Salmon Festival, Fall Fair, Toy Run) have been completed. We will include the first 100 adults to register. The cost will be $35.00 per registrant. Registrations will open on a yet-to-be-announced date. We will include fifteen businesses. They will be identified on the treasure hunt map. Hunters will be tasked with visiting each of the fifteen businesses at which time they will receive a gift or free sample of the business’s product. Their passport will get stamped at each participating shop. This will take place between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday the 29th of September. At 5pm, we will gather at McLean’s Mill for a special dinner where draws will be made for lucky hunters and an auction will take place. We will soon announce when registrations will open up, but businesses interested in increasing their traffic that day and showing off their products should contact our office at 724 6535. We are limiting it to sixteen, so if you don’t have a storefront but want in, consider partnering with someone who has a storefront. The sixteen businesses will be chosen by the chamber’s Business Committee. This is basically a fund raiser to repatriate the big, cedar focal point sign at the Visitor Centre, which is no small task.
To go along with our Shop Alberni campaign, we are conducting a bit of a poll on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/albernivalley.chamber) to get a reading on why people leave town to shop. We’re asking for your top ten reasons why you drive over the hump to shop. If we get some good, specific feedback we will be able to better identify what business niches are missing in the valley. Please take a moment to comment on our Facebook page and give us your top ten.
