Finding My Way Grief Support Group
The Alberni Valley Hospice Society’s spring Grief Support Group will be starting Wednesday February 1, 2012 and will run for 10 weeks, until April 4, 2012.
Some questions that the group helps to address are: “What is grief? What is mourning? How long does it last? Will my life ever be the same again? What helps? How do I go on?”
Our hope is that people who have suffered the death of a loved one will find the support and information they need to help them understand their grief process and move forward in life.
We provide a safe, warm environment where people can explore their thoughts and feelings with others who have had similar experiences, thoughts and feelings. Our desire is that the group will help to respond to the sense of isolation often felt by many grieving individuals, while providing support and acceptance in a non-judgmental atmosphere. The aspiration for group members is to be compassionate with themselves and, in turn, provide the same to others while learning new ways to approach problems, explore the meaning of life and death, and give hope for a new future.
The minimum group size is 5. Be sure to register now, as the group fills up quickly. Meetings will be held at the Ty Watson House Office (2649 2nd Avenue) from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm, and are facilitated by our professional Bereavement Services Counselor, Ruth McDonough. Beverages and a snack will be provided. There is no charge for the group, although donations to the Alberni Valley Hospice Society will be gratefully acknowledged. Please call 250-723-4478 to meet with Ruth and register for the group.
