New Edition of Invest Alberni Coming

The Alberni Valley Chamber of Commerce produces and distributes a magazine designed specifically for potential investors and those interested in moving to the valley. The magazine is called “Invest Alberni”. Distribution of this glossy publication includes having copies in offices and accommodations within the region and, of course, the Visitor Centre. It is also an integral part of information packages we mail to those who enquire about our community through our website, by snail mail and over the phone. It is a great tool for showcasing our community’s services and over all livability. A good example of its use is in lure packages for health care workers considering a move to Port. We are swiftly running out of our existing publication and we are planning a brand new edition for the New Year: new features, photos, up-dated directories etc. Appreciating the economic realities, we will keep the advertising rates consistent with the existing publication which was produced two years ago. Chamber members will receive a meaningful advertising discount. It will be our main man, the affable Knox Coupland, going door to door as the magazine’s sales consultant. Watch out for him in the New Year. This is an excellent opportunity to showcase your business and the services you offer to qualified potential customers who might even end up being your neighbours.
There will be an excellent opportunity to watch some elite curling foursomes at the Alberni Valley Curling Club this winter. They are fortunate to be hosting the Men’s Coastal Curling Playdowns January 16th to 18th at the club. Sixteen teams from the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island will be here to compete, along with their entourages, officials and the media. Four foursomes will advance to the provincial championships on the way to the Brier, this year to be held in the Halifax, March 6th to 14th. Kudos to Dennis Andow and his team at the curling club for landing this prestigious event.
The Visitor Centre still has a great selection of locally-flavoured books and gift items suitable for last minute gift giving. Photos, prints, placemats...we have them all in good supply. But remember, it’s the local merchants that support all our sports and cultural events in the valley…so by all means shop at home.
The Manager’s Desk will be taking a short hiatus over the next while to let the old Underwood cool off for a while. On behalf of the staff and Board of Directors of the Chamber, we wish you all a safe, merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year!
